All schools within the capital are to have their own ombudsmen for the rights of children and adults who work in schools. The news was announced by Moscow’s Ombudsman for Children’s Rights, Evgeny Bunimovich. It’s expected that this new ruling will lessen the number of conflicts and tense situations which schools often experience. Until now, ombudsmen of this kind were only posted in schools in Moscow’s southern district. “Making a complaint is not always the best solution to solving disputes. It’s better if an issue is solved by the Ombudsman," said Bunimovich.
According to Budminovich, the position of ombudsman could be filled by teacher, or a representative of a parental committee, or a psychologist – those who have a level of authority amongst children and adults in schools. In addition, preparatory sessions are being organized for the school ombudsmen. The idea of developing the Institute of the School Ombudsmen was supported by the Children’s Social Council, created by the Fellowship of Children’s Social Unions (of which 418 out of about 700 children’s unions in Moscow are members).
