Women and Children First is a Russian charitable organization founded by MiraMed Institute.  Women and Children First develops and implements programs to facilitate independent living and social adaptation for Russian orphans and at-risk youth.  In addition, the organization runs a motherhood training program for young single mothers and their babies.

In 2002, WCF received a grant from the World Childhood Foundation to start a program for young single mothers (aged 15-23) in Moscow, supplying them with medical care and consultative support.

In 2003, operation of this program began in two centers, serving 150 young mothers and their babies. By 2005, the program was being carried out in 3 centers. The new program site was the Center for Social Services, which works with 300 young mothers who themselves were raised in orphanages. The city of Moscow was so enthusiastically in favor of this program, that it has pledged partial funding for 2006.

In 2003, WCF received a grant from the city of Moscow for "socially significant projects," and also funding from United Way Moscow to provide 1000 children living in orphanages with study materials for two years.

In April 2004, WCF received a grant from the General Electric Foundation with subsequent support from Geneva Global to begin development of a national program in Moscow and St. Petersburg. This will help specialists from institutions for orphaned children from these regions use the program developed by Women and Children First and start working on a program in their institutions to heighten the social competence of orphans and social orphans.

In January 2005, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Women and Children First began developing a new project—a program to prevent HIV/AIDS and the use of psychoactive substances among schoolchildren.  The first pilot of the program completed in July, having been carried out in 5 mainstream schools during the 2005-2006 school year.  This project is being financed for 3 years by the Bristol Meyers Squibb Foundation.

Another notable occasion in 2005 was the publication in March of the first issue of “We Can Do It!,” a color newspaper distributed every month to 2000 children in Moscow shelters, children’s homes, and internats.
